Angalo
Inspired by the Nepali word for "Hug," Angalo is a personal branding project for a small-scale, slow-made knitwear store. By blending modern design with the "homey" soul of crochet, the project honors the time, love, and creativity our mothers pour into every stitch.

Both my partner’s mother and my own spend their free time knitting and crocheting. They love the craft, but we noticed there wasn't a simple way for them to share what they make with the world. We didn't want to build a high-pressure, profit-driven machine that would turn their hobby into a chore. The challenge was: how do we create a brand that looks professional enough to sell online, but stays small, personal, and true to their creative pace?

The name Angalo means "Hug" in Nepali, and that simple idea guided every choice we made. We wanted the brand to feel exactly like that, a warm, motherly embrace. The goal wasn't just to sell items, but to celebrate "slow-made" art. We wanted a space where they can simply make what they love, and when it’s finished, it finds a home. No mass production, just limited pieces made with genuine love and time.

Because this project is so personal, I started by using my mother’s own handwriting for the logo. I loved the sentiment, but as I looked at it more, I realized it didn't quite hit the mark for our audience. It was also a bit hard to read and didn't feel "modern" enough.
I then tried a serif font with a yarn-like "O," but it felt a bit clunky. I went back to mindmapping and thought about the simplest element of their craft: the loop. I developed a minimal, loopy logo that feels both fun and modern. It mimics the flow of yarn and the circular motion of a hug, perfectly capturing the friendly, approachable vibe I was after.

Angalo is a brand that feels sophisticated but remains incredibly warm. By using neutral colors and a playful, yarn-inspired visual style, we created a look that stands out on social media while keeping that 'handmade at home' soul. This allows us to tell the story of our mothers’ work in a way that’s interactive and engaging, while always coming back to the core of the project: honoring the time and love they put into every single stitch.
